This is the Jackson USA Custom Shop LTD Edition Misha Mansoor So-Cal HSS 2PT Nitro Heavy Relic Daphne Blue Guitar. This guitar was Masterbuilt by Red Dave so you know it is a killer. Founder of the triple-threat guitar juggernaut Periphery, composer/producer/entrepreneur Misha Mansoor is a triple threat in his own right. He worked closely with Red Dave on this and the result is STUNNING. Appropriately, his Jackson Custom Shop Limited Edition So-Cal Heavy Relic signature guitar reflects the musical sophistication behind one of the most respected guitarists on the contemporary music scene. A limited edition of the one-off Jackson Custom Shop instrument built for him a few years back, the Signature Misha Mansoor So-Cal HSS 2PT Heavy Relic, radiant in its Nitro Lacquer distressed Daphne Blue finish, is a head turner. There is beautiful checking in on the guitar. While you might not think of this classic solid-body electric guitar style as being optimized for modern metal, the Misha Mansoor Signature So-Cal HSS 2PT Heavy Relic will make you think again.

 

Designed to Misha Mansoor’s exacting specifications and built to sound, in Misha’s words, “as spanky as possible,” his signature axe features a light ash body and a beautiful caramelized flame maple neck. The body-hugging contours will be familiar to fans of a certain legendary American solidbody — with the addition of a lower bout contour that provides unrestricted access to the highest register. A Gotoh 2-point 510 bridge with titanium saddles gives Misha the attack he’s looking for. In addition, the Gotoh 510 is equipped with a Tremol-no System which allows you to easily turn the tremolo on and off. So you want a fixed bridge? Maybe you want a tremolo to do dive bombs? You can do both easily with the flip of a switch. You have the best of both worlds. Also this guitar has  the HSS pickup configuration which delivers a massive tone arsenal that accommodates everything from chimey cleans to bone-rattling djent and searing leads — and all points in between.

Smoldering at the bridge is a Mansoor signature Bare Knuckle Ragnarok humbucking pickup that deploys ground-shaking gain and fire-breathing sizzle and bark. But this guitar is much more than a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This vintage-modern beauty is also equipped with Crème Misha Mansoor Single Coil pickups in the neck and middle positions that serve up the spank and chime needed for shimmering, glassy chords. This HSS pickup combination makes Misha’s So-Cal signature model extremely versatile; so much so that a busy studio guitarist would have no trouble playing back-to-back roots-rock and metal sessions — both with the same guitar!

 

This guitar’s vintage visuals are not the only stealthy thing about this formidable metal machine. You might reasonably expect a modern metal axe to sport a flat fingerboard, but probably not a thick, rounded neck — and here’s where the Jackson Custom Shop Limited Edition Signature Misha Mansoor So-Cal HSS 2PT Heavy Relic will surprise you (in a good way). Neither a fan of super-thin necks nor rounded fingerboard radii, Mansoor’s preference in necks blends the old with the new. The substantial neck on his signature axe provides a satisfying, chunky grip (as well as better tone, according to Misha), while the 20-inch radius fingerboard supplies a level playing field for fleet-fingered riffing and tapping. And along these lines, let it also be said that despite its conventional 25.5-inch scale length, this guitar accommodates down tuning quite handily.

 

Misha’s relationship with Bare Knuckles pickups goes back a long way. The Ragnarok humbucker is a go-for-the-throat model with a massive amount of output, and it pulls the maximum amount possible of harmonically rich gain from your rig. The Jackson Custom Shop uses a proprietary caramelizing (roasting) procedure on the gorgeously figured flame maple neck and fingerboard of this Limited Edition Signature Misha Mansoor So-Cal. The process removes almost all the moisture from the wood and collapses the cell walls, which makes the guitar much more insensitive to humidity and climatic changes, while optimizing resonance, sustain, and overall tone.
