This is a Fender Custom Shop '68 Relic Strat Michael Landau Signature 3 Tone Sunburst Stratocaster Guitar. World-renowned session ace Michael Landau has played on hundreds of albums since the early 1980s, with artists as varied as Joni Mitchell, Seal, Michael Jackson, James Taylor, B.B. King, Pink Floyd and Miles Davis, to name only a few. He has also fronted several bands, including the Raging Honkies, Burning Water and, more recently, Renegade Creation with Robben Ford. With his own group, he continues to raise the bar in electric jazz, instrumental and rock guitar.
Highlights
This Michael Landau Fender Custom Shop Strat boasts a lightweight select alder body with a nitro-lacquer finish. The maple neck is wrapped with a Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish and sports a Custom "C" shape and a Rosewood Round Laminate Fretboard. This Strat has a 3-ply mint green pickguard and 5-way pickup switch with three Custom Handwound single-coil pickups.
Relic Treatment - What's the deal???
This Strat is treated with the Relic treatment. This means the instrument is finished to resemble an instrument that has enjoyed a long life of heavy use. This includes significant wear and tear to the finish, dings to the body, neck, and headstock, and aged hardware. The end result is an instrument that looks like it's been around for a while and plays like a broken-in instrument. After playing one of the Relic Strats there is no other way to go. Just like your favorite old pair of jeans it just feels right.
